Bike ride and heavy weight lifting for the upper body.

Bike ride followed by an easy run of forty minutes. My feet felt better. No pain during my run. I did a second bike ride in the afternoon and a few pull ups. Total run time: 40 minutes and 30 seconds.

Off. Bike ride.

Easy run on the bike path. My back was very sore from work and lifting weights. I ran after an easy bike ride. Warm weather. Total run time: 29 minutes.

Off. Long working day.

Off. Another long working day.

Short bike ride followed by a short run on the bike path, out and back. I ran without any pain. My heels/plantar did not bother me. The last couple days my back is bothering mainly due to work and because I lifted some heavy weights a few days ago. My hamstrings and quads became very sore. Slowly my back is getting better. Total run time: 31 minutes and 9 seconds. To be back in my old shape I will have to run this same route under thirty minutes feeling easy.

I had somehow a better week. Not much running, but enough to fake a come back.

On Saturday I ran for thirty minutes on the bike path. Good enough to feel some sore bones and ligaments.

On Tuesday I did a short run on the Overhill Trail. I felt better but still painful to run.

On Friday I ran the usual bike path out and back. The first ten minutes were a little painful but after that I was able to fun almost pain free.

The rest of the week was off or Cycling. These short bike rides are keeping me in good shape.

The weather became cooler and windy. Not sure if it is a good thing. The cross country season started last week. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to race this year.

I will be waiting for better days.

What do you do when you are not running? Well, I try to do some cross training. Cycling is a good option. I have an old vintage Pinarello from early 1980's. It keeps me fit while I can not run. Lifting weights is a good option too. I usually overdo it. I used to lift some heavy weights in my early 20's. These days I just try to stay fit by doing some upper body maintenance, working  muscles used mostly during running.

This past week I did a couple bike rides a day. Short bike rides. Nothing very ambitious. And I am addicted to pull ups, specially the one arm pull ups. I am getting better, being able to do at least  five pull ups with one arm.

My diet has being a little off. What is for dinner tonight?  How about Julia Child's chicken? I rode my bike to the local store and got a nice chicken. Let's see how things turn out.

On the running side I was able to do a thirty minutes run Saturday afternoon. No pain. My heels are acting weird. I am just wondering if the excess of caffeine that I am drinking is not somehow blocking t my body's mineral intake. Sometimes I drink two cups of coffee a day.

I had another week without any running, except for a ten minutes run on Sunday. Plantar fasciitis is getting better. I mean some days there is no pain, but others it comes back with a vengeance.

My upper body is getting strong as my quadriceps. I have been doing lots pull ups and riding my bike. Well, I had a couple days off this week. No run, no cycling, no weights. Good enough to rest.

Sunday morning I did a nice walk and was able to take some pictures. You can see that nice little rattle snake, a juvenile but with an attitude. Eventually, if she survives,  she will get bigger, and powerful. But by now she will have to deal with the predators in the area. All the birds: egrets, scrub jays, stilts, American avocets, owls, hawks and so on.

I finished my Sunday with a short bike ride. My legs were trashes. Work is becoming a high priority at moment. I hope to be back running soon.

As the Olympics is over, and the world goes back to its normal madness, changes are happening everywhere, but in reality all still the same. What a contradiction! Just try to make sense...

I am not sure if I should even bother to write a post about an entire week of no running. Well, why bother? It might make me feel better. My plantar fasciitis is really an annoyance. The inflammation is not going away. Very painful early morning. I have been trying a few different remedies. Alternating heat with massage and ice seems to do the trick sometimes.
Cross training is something that can lead to injuries too. Sometimes I ride my bike like a mad man . Climbing some hills close to twenty miles per hour. Add the upper body weights and pull ups, I guess I am doing alright.

Day off.

Day off. Two short bike rides and pull ups.

Short bike ride and pull ups.

The one hand  pull up is my favorite exercise at moment. My way of doing it is very simple: grab the bar with one hand like you were going to do your pull ups as usual. Then with your free hand, grab very tight the wrist of your hand that is holding the bar, and lift your body up until your chin passes the top of the bar. Do as many as you can. Or for starters, one will be enough.
